Befriending Yourself

On mindfulness and a relationship with…yourself

There are gazillion definition of ‘mindfulness’.

I personally define mindfulness as an ability to befriend myself with humility as a human being who has feelings, goals, failures, and successes.

By that definition, it boils down into the ability to be present and able to process my feelings, goals, failures, and success with sincere honesty.

The outcome? An ability to feel content with anything life has to offer.

And with my decision to choose Islam as what I believe, this concept of mindfulness became a lot more whole and make sense.

I am just on a mission to

Befriend my happy feelings

Befriend my anxious feelings

Befriend my seem-too-far goals

Befriend my physical limitations

Befriend my achievements — how little they are.

Befriend my again-and-again failures

Befriend my intention to get better

Befriend my heartbreaks

Befriend my content-ness and gratitude

I am not always happy, but I am content and I am on my way to befriend myself well. Trust me, when you are able to build a beautiful relationship with yourself, it is not that hard to build amazing relationship with others :)

Stay hydrated, workout regularly, have a good sleep, and get your heart fueled by His never-ending mercy.

Warmly,
Diella
