The Liberation I am Seeking

One major thing that is a never-ending learning for me is to be liberated.

I came across to a realisation in my early 20s that the ability to detach from anything and anyone is truly important. There were moments when I felt so exhausted and those moments were when I was too attached to something or someone. Those things can be acknowledgements, achievements, dreams, and people.

Those moments taught me that being too attached to things outside myself equals to giving them authority to drive my feelings and worldview. I — in a way — gave them power to make me happy or make me in pain. Then got myself unliberated from being wholesome and feeling content.

Speaking of liberation, I used to think that my religion is the opposite of liberation simply because of all the ‘rules’ that it brings; this view was totally wrong.

Islam and the concept of faith inside it is truly allowing me to be liberated — only if I want. Being Muslim really is not only about rituals, it’s also about the worldview and identity. Those worldview and identity help me to feel liberate, free, and simultaneously thrive in anything I aspire — only If I put the efforts.

I am in the process to detach things and people from being too attach into my heart. This process is far from easy, at least, for me.

“We are the architects of our own suffering. When we allow our hearts to be unhealthily attached to anything other than Allāh and His Messenger ṣallā llāhu ʿalayhi wasallam, is it so surprising we get hurt?”- Sarina Iskandar.
